Celebrating Kindness Dress-Up Days Week 2!!!

A mix of 7th and 8th grade Carroll Middle School students competed today at Regionals Math Counts. Our 4 person team of Hunter Sample, Brooke Stangl, Blake Decker and Jaia Strong got 1st place and will head to state next month! All kids did a great job!

Kindness Lesson from Ms. Gross' 2nd Grade Classroom:
Today, our classroom family read the story Chrysanthemum. While reading the story aloud, the students were given a heart to crumble every time a character was treated unkindly. At the end of the story, I asked the students to fix their hearts to make them smooth like they were when they started. They found this task impossible.
This activity taught my students the importance of thinking about what they are going to say or do before they do it. Even when we apologize for our unkind actions, it still leaves a wrinkle in a person’s heart. We concluded the lesson by reflecting on the many KIND things that could have been said or done in the story to help the character feel safe, included, and loved.
